Being Human In Business
Go ahead & be real. There’s no need to hide who you are when you’re acting on behalf of your business.
It’s okay to be human. It’s okay to be human in business. Actually, it might hurt to hide who you really are. It may be code and technology we’re shaping in web development and design but its place in the world is with people. It’s people that will drive its success or its failure if you don’t reach your visitors and customers on a human level. That’s such a common principle that it borders on cliché, but it remains true. Inside all the parts of a business and its marketing are real people giving it a pulse. Share on X
Our work, all of us together, needs to reflect that humanity.
Whether or not you are comfortable in your human skin and whether or not you're shying away from human connection is apparent in how you conduct your business. Share on XIt will also be detectable in the work of the web designers who will translate your company identity and your message into the medium of a website. If your behaviors and relationships aren’t divorced from your values and intentions it can make all the difference in the world. As human beings interacting in this big wide crazy world.
Being human is contagious. Just think of laughter. Or yawning.
Qualities we aspire to, that we seek in ourselves and others have a chance to be inspired by the best of outside influences. Good intentions, inspiration, integrity, like the delight of laughter on one end and yawning when things are dull on the other end of the spectrum all are contagious. As is having a purpose. As are emotions. And creativity. Or caring and serving, compassion, empathy.
We inspire each other. The web is a sprawling conversation that isn’t exactly controllable. Each piece of information we contribute to the mix can have integrity. That’s our choice. It can become evidence that we are paying attention to the things that matter. We can choose for our work to have meaning. We can build ourselves up as we go along. We can be humans in business. We can do that together.
