Unity Shoppe
If we help with “basic needs” we can prevent “welfare dependency”. No progress is possible without shelter, food and clothing.

The Organization:
100 Years of Community Service in Santa Barbara, California
It’s difficult to accurately impart the remarkable depth and heart of the service the Unity Shoppe has provided for over a century without it seeming like a fairy tail. Their programs span a commitment to assist for a wide array of needs in the Santa Barbara community.
The Unity Shoppe no-cost grocery store serves approximately 9,817 annually with $1.5 Million in donated food products distributed annually. And then there’s school clothing and supplies donated to children and families, a senior and disabled resource center, the Job Smart program, long-term and short term disaster services, the Work Learn and Earn program, and Santa Toy Shoppe. There are referring agencies: 300 Schools, Churches, Medical Groups, Counseling Centers, Senior Service agencies, Shelters, Specialty Programs and Non Profits send qualified people to the Unity Shoppe.
They have been recognized and supported by celebrities and philanthropists such as Kenny Loggins, Larry Crandell, Peter Noone, Jeff Bridges and Oprah to name a few of their “Shining Stars”.
In their own words,
“Records kept show us that 18,340 to 20,000 (8,986 children visits) people need some assistance annually. If we help them, they can avoid dependency on welfare services, food stamps and homeless situations. We assist them by supplementing their income with needed food, clothing and work-skills to improve their ability to work toward self sufficiency and in doing this, they can pay their rent and avoid more difficult situations if they lose their housing.
62% are single parents raising their children alone, 70% are in the workplace; 18% are seniors or disabled and 12% are children. 51,07 people visits were made to the Unity Shoppe in 2016.”

Needless to say, it was our sincere honor and pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Unity Shoppe and Barbara E. Tellefson, Director of Operations, the Director of Operations, Pat Hitchcock, Director of Donor Relations and Elvira Avina-Martinez, the Administrative Director.
We assisted with site architecture and executed site development and design. We continue to work them and donate our time.
