In 2006, The Montecito Firefighters responded to a growing need to create a formal mechanism that would enable them to help members of the community at large and their extended firefighting family. That was the inception of the Montecito Firefighter’s Charitable Foundation.
In their own words,
As firefighters, we are often right there, on the scene of some of the most challenging emergencies in our community and it quickly becomes clear that more and continued help would be welcomed. But we also know that struggles may not be limited to those times. They may occur after the crisis calms down or in the quiet of one’s own private situation. To us, there is no boundary we cannot cross to offer our assistance when it is needed. In other words, we are here to help in other aspects of life not only during acute emergencies.
It’s hard to articulate with only words from a keyboard the immense thrill of receiving a call from our local firefighters needing our help. Living in this amazing community of Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria and Goleta we literally jumped at the chance to participate in this project. Having the opportunity to get to know this group of first responders, to sit with them and talk about the tragedy of recent events, hear their personal stories and to assist them with their cause continues to be a great honor.
We helped to organize and write what they felt needed to be said and to portray their mission. It was important to not be overly wordy, to let the simple message come through with clarity and the pictures to tell the stories of the seemingly impossible experiences they live with day to day. The design of the site came naturally. As much from our hearts as our expertise.
