This is an award winning, longstanding, high quality, hip restaurant and wine merchant in Santa Barbara County that like many small businesses, began with a dream. This dream shifted as owners Sam and Shawnda Marmorstein learned from the community what was most needed. They choose ingredients that are local, wild, and organic whenever possible. The Wine Merchant carries over 500 wines and offers the best from the many terroirs of the captivating California Central Coast.

Sustainability has always been a priority for Sam and Shawnda and they’ve historically worked with local farmers to bring local, farm fresh food to their tables. In 2015 they took it to the next level. Now they plant their own seeds and farm three acres of their property, adjacent to their CCOF certified organic Bernat Family Vineyard, in Los Olivos. The organic produce from their farm is picked daily and brought to the Cafe (less than a mile away), to be used in their recipes.

What We Did & Why

In 2009, when Los Olivos Cafe came to Fat Eyes, they were already using their website as a sales tool and as a means to provide information and attract customers. What they hadn’t fully tackled yet was how to communicate successfully and artfully an effective sense of their essence and personality online. Visitors to their site still didn’t know what they could expect when they chose to dine at Los Olivos Café and/or purchase wine, gourmet products or catering services from them. Some sorting out and some exploration into who they really are, what they do and why needed to take place and it did.

That said, they were on the ball about the internet and saw that their customers were using the web more and more to and they were ready. They wanted to help their customers find them and choose not only the right restaurant to dine in, the right wine store to purchase from but also the right catering company and private dining venue. The focus and goal of the site was to create an environment that makes the visitor’s mouth water, encourage them to visit or purchase their products online.
