A Food Coalition & So Much More
The Hollywood Food Coalition vision is put into action with extraordinary care every day. The organization’s vision is a city where everyone has food, community, and support and they really mean it and act upon it with persevering dedication. Developing HoFoCo.com has been a deep privilege for Fat Eyes; every moment on the project has been exponentially valuable in more ways than we can express.
The HoFoCo Community Dinner program began in 1987 and they have served dinner every single night for all these years without fail. Since the beginning, they have been utterly committed to treating people with the respect and compassion every human being not only deserves but is entitled to. They feed anyone in need of a hot, nutritious meal no questions asked. Part of the beauty of the welcoming nature of the program is the trust that develops and enables HoFoCo to spread its assistance to other areas for their client guests.
Their program offerings have evolved over time. Community Dinner addresses food insecurity, the Community Wellness Program assists guests with immediate needs beyond food. The Community Exchange centers around food rescue and utilization of the food through collaboration with other community nonprofits. It’s a free, concierge food service. Through the program, nonprofits receive the food they need, when they want it, so they can focus on their missions. Community Building supports the knowledge that groups that team up to work on joint activities are the foundation of community, resource availability, and strengthens social ties and relationships.

“In 1987, we answered a call to action from the City of West Hollywood to help unhoused people in need and decided to offer a simple meal every single day.
We began by offering sandwiches on a street corner and grew into a nightly Community Dinner for anyone in need.”

We welcome people to dinner each night. We rescue and redistribute food to other organizations. We care for our immediate community through our wellness program. We build community with and through our volunteers and community partnerships.”
What We Did & Why
When the Hollywood Food Coalition approached us to help them create a website that was accurate to their organization we jumped on board without hesitation. They’d been around for decades yet had no true representation of all the fine work they do. A wonderful challenge.
This site represents the first comprehensive collection of what they do and how they do it available online. It was a finely-honed detailed process from determining the site architecture to crafting the language and messaging that would be their true voice. We worked collaboratively and as it turned out, we learned that the way they operate in the field is akin to how they work behind the scenes. True collaboration every step of the way. We are so pleased with the results!

Gina Fiedel is the co-founder/owner of Fat Eyes Web Development. After a successful career as an artist and transitioning into electronic media in the early 90’s, she then founded Fat Eyes in 1998 to bring those skills to the web with her husband, Doug Anderson.
