Flamenco! What could be more dynamic, expressive, and compelling when it comes to dance and music? We are fortunate to have authentic Flamenco in Santa Barbara.
Flamenco Arts Festival was founded by a father/daughter duo. The current Director’s father, Alberto Paul Pizano and Vibiana, a former dancer herself, founded the organization in 1999 and its first edition in 2000 was held at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara.
The Festival is 4 days long with visiting guest artists who perform, teach, lecture, interact with participants, and represent Spain. Festivities include live concerts, lectures, films and documentaries, award presentations, dance and music workshops, and celebrations.
In their words,
“National Hispanic Heritage Week was initiated in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson and expanded to a one-month celebration in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. It is designed to recognize the Hispanic presence in the United States and the contributions they make to enhance the quality of life in America. The Flamenco Arts Festival joyfully joins the nation in celebrating, not only Hispanics, but also the heritage and culture of all Americans, which is freely shared with all who value the richness that comes with diversity.”
Their Mission:
The Flamenco Arts Festival mission is to place a spotlight on Hispanic Heritage Month through the presentation of world-class flamenco performances and related arts educational programs; promote and preserve the art of flamenco; make the performing arts accessible to families and children; diversify the performing arts calendar; and build bridges of positive experiences between people.”
The Flamenco Arts Festival came to us because they were interested in upgrading their website to meet web best practices for 2019. There were priorities such as Responsive Design for a Mobile Friendly website and to convert their heavy use of graphics with text to HTML text for improved recognition by search engines. This required a site re-design and rebuild. We are continuing to work with them as the 2019 festival approaches to include details, program calendars, and press.
It’s been a pleasure working with the powerful graphics created by Cecelia Martini-Muth and their wonderful photography.
