The Movie & Director/Producer

The movie, Bluegrass Country Soul, produced and directed by Albert Ihde, captured the sights and sounds of Carlton Haney’s 1971 Labor Day Festival in Camp Springs, North Carolina.

The website has been created and launched as a first step in an exciting development for the film. A newly restored archival version in a Golden Anniversary Box-Set, will soon be released. A newsletter sign up offers the opportunity to read background stories, updates, get special offers, and event announcements.

“On the surface it is simply a 90-minute documentary of that event. We see excerpts of performances by several of the most important figures in bluegrass – Chubby Wise, Roy Acuff, Ralph Stanley, Earl Scruggs, as well as some of the younger and freakier groups like the Blue Grass Alliance (now the New Grass Revival) and the New Deal String Band. (The performers, incidentally, as well as festival promoter Carlton Haney have donated their percentage of the film to the establishment of a bluegrass museum on Camp Springs.)

But the film goes beyond this. Like the blues, bluegrass is an American phenomenon and touches on many aspects of our culture.”

What We Did & Why

Albert Ihde, being a producer and director, came to us with a very clear vision of what he was looking for and needed in a website. And a clear purpose. Proceeds from the sales of a specially produced poker deck of 54 playing cards will help defray some of  the costs of restoring the film and donating an archival copy to the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro, KY.

We translated Albert’s site ideas into current web standards to create a website that fits in the context of today’s web.
