2015 to present
The interesting and impressive Macfarlane Collection of 19th and 20th century American art, a member of Sotheby’s Internet Associates with clients who are private collectors, museums, and other well-known art institutions from around the country, was started over twenty five years ago and is housed in Santa Barbara, California. The organization has a special affection California paintings and especially paintings that immortalize scenes of Santa Barbara and of course, we are also partial to those pieces. All the works are fully appraised and authenticated and the collection stays up to date with changes in the art and auction markets.
Having been fine artists, included in both private and public collections ourselves, when Steve MacFarlane wanted to work with us to bring his website to today’s standards, we were thrilled. Here was someone we could enjoy speaking with for hours (and we have) about art, art history and artists we love. He is incredibly knowledgeable and has great stories to share. Not only that, but spending time with the art works in the collection, countless numbers of them, art we adore was a total pleasure.
Our goal was to create a site that sat back quietly and foregrounded the art that makes up its content. Naturally, the written content was also important and we edited and fine-tuned while retaining Steve’s natural voice. We created a new system for the display of the database of works in WooCommerce. That proved to be the most efficient way to organize the collection of three hundred or so pieces.
